Barbara Walters to interview same-sex parents on 20/20
by John Graves
Barbara Walters chats with three lesbian and gay couples and their children for a special report on same-sex parenting set to air on ABC's 20/20 Friday night, March 9. Walters talks to the children about having same-sex parents and how their friends and classmates treat them. None of the children are embarrassed by their families.
"I have interviewed presidents and kings, but never has anyone been quite this honest with me," Walters told TV Guide about one seven-year-old girl's response.
'I'm wearing my costume home'
Xena Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless says she will keep her fighting gear when the show airs its final episode in June.
"You better believe it!" Lawless told People magazine "Chatter" columnist Jason Lynch. "I'm going to walk off that last day wearing my outfit and drive home in it. I've had so many ups and downs over the last six years in it that I earned keeping it. I've had a great time, but boy it has been hard work."
Recalling some of the outrageous campiness of the show Lawless quipped, “I watched an episode the other day when a
an excuse for the attractive actors, male and female, to strip down to their undies. Butsurprise!-gay characters are presented in a totally matter-of-fact manner. Their relationships, dating, traumas are all given the same emphasis as the straight couplings. The sanguine attitudes are remarkable and refreshing."
"Gay organizations and publications that expend so much time honoring the nowtired Will & Grace ought to take a look at Undressed to see what real progress is," Smith added.
Add 'Wild On' to that
For magazine-style shows, my pick would be the E! channel's racy travelogue Wild On... The show's blend of straight and LGBT hosts, vacationers and nightspots along with special LGBT events such as

on MTV.
Dick's characters on his new show include Daphne Aguilera, whom TV Guide describes as "the foul-mouthed, chain-smoking 'cousin' of pop star Christine Aguilera." The magazine reports Dick will return to network television as an excitable drama teacher in Go Fish, an NBC mid-season replacement show.
TV Guide describes Go Fish as a comingof-age drama, but I don't know whether or not the series is based on the lesbian coming-of-age film of the same name.

Undressed can be seen almost any night after 11 pm where MTV often airs several episodes back-to-back. The E! channel airs different Wild On episodes Saturdays at 11 pm and midnight and weekdays at midnight and 3 am the next morning.
CBS' Judging Amy focused on LGBT issues again recently, with a show about recognizing the parental rights of same-sex couples.

Liz Smith likes 'Undressed'
Newly-out bisexual columnist Liz Smith picked MTV's Undressed for the best portrayal of LGBT people in ħer February 20 Newsday column.
"Will & Grace has received a lot of unwarranted praise as a 'breakthrough' in programming, despite its relentless stereotyping (this season the sitcom has becomewhisper the word-boring!)" Smith wrote. "Showtime's Queer as Folk is a luridly entertaining soap opera for and about homosexuals. It is a buffed and heightened reality for a select audience."
"So, where can more or less realistic portrayals of gay folk be found on TV? Believe it or not, MTV's Undressed is the place. This late-night, half-hour show, with its rotating cast of young unknowns and its fast-changing plot lines, is really not much more than
Jeffrey Mostade, PCC, NCC
In its February 16 issue, the National Catholic Reporter ran a feature story by Arthur Jones on the 15th anniversary celebration of the Los Angeles archdiocese's ministry with lesbian and gay Catholics.
Only two protesters marred the February 4 celebration at St. Dominick's Church, similar to one hosted by Dignity Cleveland and the Cleveland diocese at St. John's Cathedral a couple of years ago.
Acknowledging the fact that leading a lesbian and gay ministry without violating Vatican policy is difficult, Father Peter Liuzzi told Jones, "The ministry is very centrist, moderate. The members are generally somewhat conservative people in fairly conservative parish settings. I pay a price for that from a whole other circle."
Liuzzi said others criticize him for being too conservative, saying he is "really compromising, leading lesbians and gays to a kind of passive role."

The hospital attempted a religious defense and paraded a bunch of witnesses who tried to persuade Judge Amy the relationship between the two women was "unnatural" and "contrary to God's law.”
Fortunately, Amy was not persuaded that in this case God's law and so-called "natural law" was above civil law, and she ruled in favor of the couple.

Charlotte Ross is leaving her co-starring role as TV series developer Lori Volpone, “a conniving self-obsessed, overcaffeniated prima donna whose foul language would make Eminem blush" on Showtime's Beggars and Choosers to play Connie McDowell, a new detective on NYPD Blue.
Ross, who is single in real life and in her new role, told TV Guide's Michael Logan she has no clue as to what direction her character's love life will go. Ross said, “I saw Stephen Bochco at a party last night and said, 'Okay, so who am I going to have sex with?' He just made fun of me, and I went back to my table. I've heard that Connie might have an interoffice relationship. Somebody said she might be a lesbian. I'm still fishing."
'Gaywaves' has hiatus
Finally, I'm sorry to report that Gaywaves may be off the air for a couple of weeks while WRUW 91.1 FM uses the production studio as the air studio to make some desperatelyneeded repairs to the air studio equipment. Don't worry though, Gaywaves will be back on the air as soon as repairs are complete.
John Graves is the producer and host of Gaywaves, a lesbian-gay public affairs show on Cleveland's WRUW 91.1 FM Fridays at 7 pm, and at http://radio.cwru.edu. Dave Haskell, Jim McGrattan and Kim Jones also contributed to this column.
